Xaxli’p Making Headway in Green Hydrogen Production Partnership with Salish Elements

Vancouver, BC – June 18th, 2024 – Xaxli’p First Nation (one of the eleven St’át’imc communities) and Salish Elements Representatives signed and Agreement in Principle (AIP) in May of this year to collaborate on the development of 25 MW green hydrogen production facility in Xaxli’p territory. The representatives established the terms for a more detailed working agreement between the Xaxli’p Development Corporation (XDC) and Salish Elements to create a new partnership in the construction and operation of the facility.
The timeline for this partnership:
- May 2023 – Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by Chief Darrel Bob of Xaxli’p and Charman Rueben George of Salish Elements. This MOU outlined an initial working agreement.
- May 2024 – Agreement in Principle (AIP) was signed by Xaxli’p and Salish Elements to collaborate on the development of 25 MW green hydrogen production facilities
- June 2024 – Announcement of the AIP at the Hy-fcell Conference at Canada Plance – this was announced by Chief (Kukpi7) Darrell Bob of Xaxli’p, Chairman Rueben George of Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and the Hon. Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation
- Upcoming for this partnership – a more detailed working agreement was established for Xaxli’p Development Corporation (XDC) and Salish Elements to create a new partnership in the construction and operation of the facility. They will incorporate the partnership upon the success of a community referendum.
